TAKING IT DAY BY DAY…

15 July 2013

I’m coming on nicely – each day goes a bit better… BUT… I still can’t sit comfortably!! So I’m hardly on the computer these days and feel I’m missing out on such a lot – but at this point walking around or lying down is preferable to sitting!! Also not driving yet – mainly ‘cos I can’t sit for any length of time… Surgeon keeps reminding me that it’s only been 3 weeks since the “big op” and my body still has a lot of healing to do – something that could take another 2 to 3 months! Will be seeing him tomorrow for another check-up… Continue reading

TIME TO CUT IT OUT…

20 June 2013

Check in to hospital and once again answer same questions as at the pre-op medical! Feel extremely calm while waiting to be wheeled into theatre. When the surgeon walks in I tell him it’s time to cut the bugger out! 🙂

My brother gives family and friends a post-op update:

Well, folks, the good news is that Fi is already on the mend. Although she had not spoken to the doctor by the time we left her tonight all indications are that the op went well. Although naturally in some pain (offset partially with the morphine) with occasional “sharp cramps” she seemed pretty comfortable and in a good space. In fact I thought she looked great for having gone through such an ordeal only hours earlier.
Thanks so much to all friends and family for the support and prayers in the difficult time leading up to today. I know Fiona really values and appreciates all the wonderful messages she has been receiving from you all.
She is anticipating that she will be in high-care for at least 24 hours and then Ward D11, Constantiaberg Medi-Clinic, will be her home for the next week or so.

THE ROAD AHEAD…

10 May 2013

Received mixed results from this weeks blood tests… Good news is that the CEA tumour marker is down from 7.5 to 1 which brings it into the normal range (0 to 5), so it looks like the treatment has had a positive effect… BUT, the white cell count and neutrophils are down again!! The oncologist won’t send me to the surgeon until he is satisfied with the cell count as these help with wound healing and prevent infections. Fortunately he was happy about everything else!! I was hoping to see the surgeon in 2 weeks time, but that has been put out now as I have to have more blood tests then :-(. So it’s a case of waiting a bit longer!! But, I always believe that things happen for a reason…

Fortunately my white cell count has come up a bit to just over the cut off level…so let’s hope it continues to increase. Still don’t know when I see the surgeon but hopefully will find out more next week… Continue reading
